Ekoturism

Ecotourism, a movement that began to take shape back in the 1980s, is the oldest and most commonly used word for it. More recent industry buzzwords include green travel, nature travel, responsible travel, ethical travel, mindful travel, conscious travel, pro-poor tourism, and many others.

According to The Oxford English Dictionary, the word “ecotour” was first recorded in 1973, followed by “ecotourism” in 1982.
There, the word is defined as, “Tourism to areas of ecological interest (typically exotic and often threatened natural environments), especially to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife;
spec. access to an endangered environment controlled so as to have the least possible adverse effect.”

Principles of Ecotourism

Minimize physical, social, behavioral, and psychological impacts.
Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
Provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
Generate financial benefits for both local people and private industry.
Deliver memorable interpretative experiences to visitors that help raise sensitivity to host countries' political, environmental, and social climates.
Design, construct and operate low-impact facilities.
Recognize the rights and spiritual beliefs of the Indigenous People in your community and work in partnership with them to create empowerment.

Eco-tourism in Sweden
Nature’s Best tours, trips and active holidays are the best way to enjoy Sweden’s great outdoors responsibly and to benefit the environment you find yourself in, local business, local people and their culture. It’s pretty simple really; you should book your trip through one of their approved tour operators. The range of activities on offer is amazing; dogsledding in the Arctic Circle, timber-rafting in Värmland, oyster and lobster ‘safaris’ in West Sweden, sea kayaking and a host of others.

För oss känns det exotiskt och spännande med kroppsmålade urinvånare i tropiska skogar, men för andra kan det vara exotiskt att uppleva norrsken, timmerhus och lägereldar i den svenska naturen.
